Information you’ll need to provide

  • This will vary by household. However, you will need to provide a social security number for every child, which will indicate their age.
  • You will also need to provide proof of income which will determine the amount received each month.

Helpful tips

  • The IRS will use information you provided in previous tax returns to determine if you qualify and automatically enroll you for advance payments.
  • Families can use the Child Tax Credit Update Portal to check payment status, register children born or adopted in 2021, and update changes to household income.
  • Homeless people with children qualify for the tax credit. Or if you are temporarily away from your main home due to military service, work, vacation, education or illness.
  • Families earning $150,000 for a couple or $112,500 for a family with a single parent will earn the full credit which is $3,000 for children age of 6+ and $3,600 for children under the age of 6.
